Our feet are unique whilst belonging to our human nature, they are our hallmark, so to say.
Each foot is composed by 26 bones and all of them work like a perfect and harmonic gearing, permitting us to run, jump , walk, etc. During our active life we walk a daily average of
160.000 Km., meaning 4 times the turn of the planet , walking nearly at an daily average of 15 to 20 kilometers.
Unfortunately, this misunderstood and ill –treated organ to it’s limit’s capacity, forgetting that due to it’s geographical position, at the end of our body, it is more exposed to forgetfulness. There are more prejudices and myths than realities about the foot, always hidden in a shoe , and originating therefore shyness when exposing them.

From the moment man begins to protect them from climate, accidents and other dangers to the moment he gives them the quality of an esthetic element, history begins to change till nowadays.

The key to self-care is directly related to the space
used by feet and their provided comfort. We must understand that we should love them and also understand that they are exposed to damage every time of the year.

When I am asked how can I take better care of my feet I think of all those necessary cares to attain their goal. I also think about the great amount of actually existing information on how to get a beautiful foot, forgetting that this advice doesn’t take into account all those people who have not a slim foot and fine-featured nails and toes. Sometimes I relate it to fashion and I think the designers only create for slender women having thin figures.
To obtain a positive answer for self-care it is necessary to know that all feet have their own identity, and that those people requiring information feel that this measure is possible to apply to their feet.
In daily life the foot is intimately dependent on footwear , as well as in occidental as in oriental cultures.
Socially considered, this situation may change the way of life, and last but not least, people are exposed to rigorous rituals of torment with the only purpose of demonstrating their social position within a community. Understanding this topic will permit us to take every measure , how simple it may be, of care and comfort.
Our feet need to be constantly lubricated, cleaned and ventilated. They must be protected but not be pressured, be washed but not stay humid.
The natural enemies live and multiply if this conditions are not respected . Fungi or mycosis may affect the skin and its accessories. Amongst them the nails, and if this happens, a long journey begins that can last for years without positive results.

The care of our nails must be oriented to keep them clean, and if possible, without nail polish. To obtain a natural growing and avoiding its possible alterations, we must keep them free of residues. Observing this residues through the microscope we can see the presence of dust, soap rests, eliminated cells, etc.

The permanent frictions and pressures expose the foot to a defending answer of the skin, which, as a reaction will thicken, producing the well known calluses (Keratosis) , meaning a hypoxia of the tissues which keratinize , originating pain and malaise, which cause alterations to our constitution and increase preexisting injuries like arthritis, sciatica, lumbago, etc.

Summertime will allow us to expose and ventilate our feet better. We can refresh them in sea and river water. We can walk through the sands of beaches, stimulating and strengthening our foot muscles, but we must take care of accidents caused by foreign objects, such as broken glass , splinters, sea urchin spines, fish hooks, etc.
